Are You Confused About
Food Allergies, Grains & Gluten-Free?
This month we are getting clear on a wide variety of wellness topics as we work our way through the series: “Are You Confused About…”
Coming up, we have articles on food allergies, Vitamin D, the B Vitamin family, some awesome new bio-tech research, and other related topics all month long.
Today’s topic, Grains & Gluten Free, is one of many buzzwords in the health arena and a huge marketing area – so it pays to have the right coaches! Learn what is truth in the matter and what is leaven, what are good solid nutritional choices and what is merely puffed up hype! (*wink* I’m all cracked up with the food puns this month.)
A common health fad these days is to go “gluten-free” or to be diagnosed as “gluten-intolerant”. In fact, this article comes about because dear friends just encountered this and inquired about feeding a family healthy foods and “gluten-free” on a budget. They had excellent questions and we knew many of you would be interested in those answers as well.
When we divide the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, this topic is much like the difference between “natural” and “organic”, which in both cases, is all about marketing and high priced consumer frenzy. It is fear-based marketing that makes the consumer feel like they are doing something much better for themselves and their families, when in actuality, you are mostly spending way too much money and not really accomplishing the changes that will do the most good.
You see, making healthier choices in your eating and meal preparation should always be more about choosing products and foods that are closer to their natural state, as fresh as possible or frozen ripe, and in the proper nutrient balance for the CHEMISTRY of the body.
The primary reason “gluten intolerance” is on the rise and now associated with so many symptoms is the gross overindulgence in grains in general, not just wheat products. That over-consumption, combined with the highly processed way in which the grain-based foods are prepared, is the real and major culprit in a wide variety of “allergy” founded diseases that go from rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, Chron’s, allergies, diabetes, substance addictions and abuse, bi-polar disease, depression, heart disease, fibromyalgia, and the list goes on!
In our clinic, we have successfully treated numerous patients diagnosed with many of those diseases with simple, effective allergy-elimination strategies – for over 12 years now – that don’t require specialty foods or extreme food budgets in order to exist.
We have found that the most successful paths are not full of law and rigid dietary guidelines, but rather the selection of healthier options of great tasting natural choices in the proper balance for great body chemistry! In short, a life of freedom and enjoyment instead of bondage and restriction. It’s all in learning what you like and renewing the mind to think for health – what you LIKE is what makes you healthy!
Yes, change does require change. To change from terribly addicted or terribly diseased to amazingly healthy, from overweight or underweight to proper size, shape, and weight, requires change. But you will never succeed long-term unless the mindset of what you like changes! I will repeat it for you: we like what makes us healthy! We LIKE what makes us healthy!
Now… the next step is to clear away the fad marketing frenzies and learn what that really is and what it is not! That is what this site is dedicated to and what our wellness coaching groups will help you with EVERY month! (And, for a limited time only… they are FREE! No charge means no excuse!)
Regarding gluten and allergies or intolerance, let’s try to give a brief look here at the roots. The short explanation for the gluten-related sensitivities and diseases that crop up are from over-consumption of grains, unhealthy gut, and high-homocysteine levels from too much sugar, grains, alcohol, and/or stimulants of any kind.
All these things are the tipping point in the body’s chemistry balance, eroding away the storehouses of B vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals. This produces a chain-reaction, like dominoes, where they all fall down – in this case, all the proper, healthy organ and chemical or hormonal functions begin to be in dysfunction, one after another over time – sometimes over so much time that the reactions are not seen as connected to one another or to any specific thing.
That is grouped by medical science into a catch all category called Syndrome X, a pre-diabetic state, or Insulin Resistance Syndrome, but importantly, this “syndrome” encompasses so so so much more than the medical community has been ready to acknowledge.
Chronic fatigue, depression, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel, so many “dis-eases” are rooted in this same fallout from an over-taxed, misunderstood hormonal cycle of the body. But, the good side to all this, however, is that it is all lifestyle driven, accentuated by familial tendencies and a small bit of genetics.
So, how is that the good side? Because you can change it. You can prevent it from going any further down your family tree; you can halt dis-ease in it’s wicked tracks, not by a lifestyle of laws and rigid restrictions, but by learning the way to real health, which is freedom, not bondage. It is in developing a lifestyle where freedom is not used as a license to gluttony but freedom to have pleasure AND restraint in the ebb and flow of life and hormones!
So, about gluten-free. The way to rehab a gluten-intolerant patient is NOT to purchase and consume gluten-free products, just like for a diabetic – it is NOT to purchase and consume sugar-free products! It is to renew the mind, heal the gut, balance the chemistry, and change the behavior patterns to make different choices SO THAT a different outcome is produced.
For example, the patient has to WANT to feel better and live longer and stronger. That should be a given, but it is not. Sadly, most consumers want to simply find ways to continue in dis-ease forming habits and choices with products that make their minds feel like they have made an effort but are really just a victim and cannot really be responsible.
OK, that is harsh, but true. We see it year after year, whether it is cancer, diabetes, depression, fibromyalgia, addictions, whatever. If you are looking for justification of why you are sick, you will always find it and the laws, pills, or even health-food bondage that salves the conscience while you play the victim. But…
If you want to be free, enjoy life again, and eat real food that is for fuel and for pleasure, you CAN do that if you will simply listen, learn, and allow the mind to be renewed! Isn’t that good news?? Wouldn’t you want that instead? We would. And, we believe that many of you, because you are here reading, also want that freedom and health!
So, the first steps to rehab, in any instance, is to stop consuming the addictive substance and get the body what it really needs to recover proper chemistry. In this case, GRAINS. All grains. To substitute other grains instead of gluten will simply produce another food allergy later down the road, and then another, until you eventually become allergic to everything and live in a bubble where even chapstick sends you into an asthma attack or bleeding to the ER.
Adopt the motto that all things are permissible but not all things are beneficial. You can rehab and add the grains back in later when health is recovered and your mind is able to add them in portions that are beneficial, not gluttonous.
So, choose lean meats, great volumes of veggies, lots of flavor and variety is a big key, and things that really taste good! Use almond flour or coconut flour to bake with if you are a good cook. At holidays, I make pie crusts with finely ground pecans and butter instead of flour based crusts. I fill it with the best pecan pie recipe my hubby ever tasted and we enjoy life! We don’t eat that every day because you just don’t require that every day. Renew the mind.
Start getting over yourself more. Your body is like a big baby. Decide which road you want to be on and take it. See, most people think they must do a hard, rigid diet, be it gluten-free or calorie-restricted, or no sugar, or whatever, and then just end up breaking the rules, counting the days until it’s over, or binging and feeling guilty or feeling “I deserve it, I’m so deprived.” Get over that nonsense.
Add in lots, and I do mean lots, of good fats. Good fats lead to excellent chemistry and freedom from addictions.
Take your NKO Krill, Cellfood, and ASEA everyday and you will be astonished how many addictions, allergies, and chemistry problems disappear! (see other articles and training webinars on this) But you simply have to take them! Not buy them and put them in the shelf. Just do it. How hard is that? It is not. That is why so many don’t do it. Selah. (stop and think on that.)
Coconut oil is a great healer that will help one recover from gluten intolerance, taking 1T with every meal, or using it in the preparation of the meals, will heal the gut lining and stop the permeability of the gluten molecules that are causing so many problems.
Using a great probiotic will also be extremely helpful in the rehab process and there are articles about that here on the site as well.
So, to close for today, that is not nearly the whole story, but a good start. I’ll write more on food allergies as a whole next time so stay tuned.
Remember… your health. Your choice.

Great article. I have heard a lot of people who have been diagnosed with gluten intolerance lately. This definitely make a lot of sense. I am learning that it is a total mind change. Renewing your mind to the truth and walking in it. I was going to ask what ASEA was also. Looking forward to hearing more about it at the Webinar on Monday.
This is a very informative article, Michelle! I had to read it twice. You have so nailed it on the head about the victim mentality. That's been me for a long time. I wanted to lose but didn't want to try. I've dropped nearly 20 pounds, PTL! Can't wait for Monday night's session!
Love this! Thanks!
This is a great article! When I started getting more serious about being healthy, and before I knew about The Picture of Health, I started out eating gluten-free products. I did notice that the unusual swelling I was experiencing that doctors had no answer for began to diminish. My joints felt better after eating gluten-free for 3 days. Now that I have learned so much more, I know that when I eat grain free, I feel even better. I am sure I was eating less grains when I thought I was eating gluten-free. By being grain free, the swelling in my body has gone down even more and I have increased energy. I now know I need to continue eating grain free until I get to where I need to be, and add grains in later in very moderate amounts later on. My doctor has been amazed with my new blood work and how many things have improved. I like being healthier. I like not having to deal with swelling in my body. I like sleeping better and not having hot flashes any more! Yes, I like being healthy and my taste buds are adjusting to me eating more vegetables with less meat too.
I read something that said "If it comes from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don't eat it".
ASEA is what we will be talking about in the Monday webinar! It's new David and you will LOVE this! I am using it in my mountain training and am TOTALLY AMAZED! In just 4 weeks on the ASEA with my Krill & Cellfood, I went from training hikes on the hills a hard 4.5 miles 3-4 times week to a 10 miler last Saturday and 30 miles for the week without soreness or any recovery days! Seriously, Dr Ray is so impressed. Patients are RAVING about it for supporting prostate health, energy, athletic performance, helping the body heal from psoriasis and lots more. SEE YOU ON THE WEBINAR MONDAY!
Thank you for the reminder; this is great information for healthy FREE living. Could you please remind me again what ASEA stands for?
